The Glomark Supermarket at Mount Lavinia was conceived as more than a retail outlet, but as a clear and efficient spatial model for contemporary urban shopping in Sri Lanka. Located with direct access from both Galle Road and Hotel Road, the building is organised for ease of movement, visibility, and convenience, responding to the fast-paced character of the Colombo South corridor. The project forms part of a larger hypermarket concept, bringing together multiple retail brands within a unified environment of approximately 25,000 square feet. Architecturally, the design emphasises clarity and adaptability. Large, open floor plates allow flexible merchandising layouts, while simple circulation paths guide customers intuitively through the space. Generous frontage and clear entry points strengthen its street presence, reinforcing its role as a neighbourhood landmark. This project evolved into a prototype for subsequent Glomark outlets, establishing a consistent approach to planning, branding, and customer experience through a rational, repeatable design language.
